Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering.

The wind slabs of the last three days are in some cases still prone to triggering. The prevalence of these avalanche prone locations will increase with altitude. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain the likelihood of avalanches is higher. Winter sport participants can release avalanches in some places, including medium-sized ones. As the temperature drops hardly any moist and wet avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

Sunday: The wind was strong adjacent to ridgelines in particular along the border with France, on the northern Alpine ridge. As a consequence of falling temperatures a crust formed on the surface during the night, in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2400 m. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2400 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitude a little snow is lying.
