CM for 4/02/23. Some fresh windslab on NE to SE aspects above 800m Sat PM. Not expected to be significant. Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will continue to consolidate. During Saturday afternoon small amounts of fresh, unstable windslab will begin to develop on North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres in steep wind sheltered locations. These fresh deposits are not expected to gain significant depth. Fragile cornices will also begin to form above these aspects. Wind scoured slopes will begin to firm up in the cooler conditions by the end of the period. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: It will be mostly dry overnight and through Saturday morning. Rain will then set in early afternoon, quickly turning to snow down to around 600 metres by dusk. The freezing level will be around summit levels, falling to 600 metres during Saturday afternoon. Summit winds will very strong South-South-Westerly and veer to become Westerly by the end of the period. Observed Weather Influences: It was a mainly dry morning with rain settling in around midday. The freezing level was above the summits. Winds were West-South-Westerly and strong on the tops. ObservedSnowStability: The remaining snowpack has become saturated and well bonded on all aspects and at all elevations. Greatest accumulations are on North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. There was evidence of recent cornice collapse and small snow/debris avalanches in Coire Ardair. The avalanche hazard is Low.
