The strong wind has transported the new snow. In some places sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed. The fresh and older wind slabs represent the main danger. Avalanches can be released in near-surface layers, even by a single winter sport participant. This applies in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, and on very steep slopes. The avalanche prone locations are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase a little on very steep sunny slopes below approximately 2700 m. On extreme slopes and in steep rocky terrain moist loose snow avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they will be mostly small.
In some localities 10 cm of snow fell in the last three days above approximately 2500 m. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, especially above approximately 2400 m.
The avalanche danger will persist.
