Chic-Choc Mountains, Chic-Chocs.
On Wednesday, a melt-freeze crust will make travel in the mountains more slippery, but it is likely to soften by the afternoon. Keep an eye out for signs of instability in the wet, loose surface snow as the day progresses.
No new avalanches have been reported or observed.
If you head into the backcountry, thanks for sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).
A widespread melt-freeze crust will form overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the mountains. As the day progresses on wednesday, this crust will thaw as temperatures rise and the freezing level climbs up.
Recent rain and warm temperatures have contributed to a significant reduction in the snowpack and have exposed several surface hazards.
At mid-mountain elevations, the average snowpack depth is approximately 150 cm.
