Avalanche hazard on Monday will be similar to what we saw over the weekend. Small amounts of new snow and relatively cold temperatures have meant that avalanches are limited to wind loaded slopes and even those have been very shallow. As folks venture out into the alpine with potential clearing tomorrow, evaluate the depth of windloaded snow on East slopes.
Similar to Sunday, Wind Slab avalanches barely warrant being included as an avalanche problem. They are possible on East slopes particularly at higher elevations where there was more snow and wind. Any Wind Slab avlanches are likely to be very shallow. Evaluate the depth of potential Wind Slabs before committing to steep lee terrain.
Monday will be a day of transition from our current stormy weather back to high pressure. Snow showers will taper off in the morning, and we may see some sun by late afternoon. On sunny slopes the few inches of new snow will likely be affected by any sunshine we receive.
