Forecast Snow Stability: There will be a significant thaw throughout the period. The existing consolidated snowpack will become wet, and in general remain stable. However, some wet snow instability is possible on very steep ground above 850 metres on North through East to South aspects. Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight rain will become patchy in the morning but more persistent again during Tuesday afternoon. This rain will be to all levels. There will be gale force South-South-Westerly winds on the tops throughout the day. Freezing level will rise well above the summits overnight, and remain there throughout Tuesday. Observed Weather Influences: It was a showery day with sleet and wet snow above 900 metres with a drier afternoon. Winds were strong South-Westerly on the summits. The freezing level has slowly risen to above the tops during the day. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack continues to consolidate and is stable. There is thawing and depletion at lower levels. Greatest snow accumulations can be found above 800 metres, on North through East to Southerly aspects. Firmer snow with icy patches exist at higher elevations. The avalanche hazard is Low.
