As the day progresses a considerable danger of wet avalanches will prevail.

The snowpack will be wet all the way through. Hardly any more dry avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Dry avalanches can still be released in particular on very steep north facing slopes in the high Alpine regions. The snowpack is thoroughly moist below approximately 2700 m on north facing slopes and up to more than 3000 m in the other aspects. In particular in both southern Valais and Grisons, as well as locally in the other regions, distinct weak layers still exist deep in the old snowpack. On north facing slopes above approximately 2700 m, these weak layers are gradually becoming moist for the first time and consequently being weakened. Wet snow and gliding avalanches originating in multiple starting zones that have retained the snow thus far are to be expected as the day progresses. Observed weather review Monday, 08.05.2023 The night was mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms in the first half of the night in particular. The snowfall level was between 2300 and 2600 m. During the day it was partly sunny in Valais and the south, otherwise mostly cloudy. Showers returned in the afternoon. Fresh snow From Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon a few centimetres of snow fell over a wide area in the high Alpine regions, and up to 15 cm fell in the Aletsch region and from Val Bregaglia into the Bernina region. Temperature At midday at 2000 m: about +8 °C in Valais and the south, and about 6°C elsewhere Wind Light to moderate from northerly directions Weather forecast through Tuesday, 09.05.2023 On Monday night the skies will be clear at times. The north will be partly sunny in the morning, but then become increasingly cloudy from the west and south. In the late afternoon, a little precipitation will fall in the northwest. The snowfall level will be approximately 2800 m. Fresh snow - Temperature At midday at 2000 m: about +9 °C in the north and +6 °C in the south Wind Mostly light, in the afternoon sometimes moderate, from the southwest Outlook through Thursday, 11.05.2023 Wednesday In particular on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning there will be heavy precipitation. The snowfall level will drop rapidly towards 1800 to 2000 m. In the afternoon there will be some bright spells in Valais and the south, but precipitation will continue to fall in Grisons. In the extreme west of Lower Valais, on the northern Alpine ridge and in northern Grisons, 20 to 40 cm of snow could fall above 2800 m, otherwise 10 to 20 cm could fall over a wide area. At midday the zero degree level will be approximately 2500 m. The danger of dry avalanches will increase in the high Alpine regions. The danger of wet snow avalanches will decrease a little for a while as the temperature falls. In the afternoon, solar radiation is expected to trigger wet snow avalanches in the fresh snow. Thursday Tuesday night will be partly clear in the west, otherwise mostly cloudy. During the day it will be partly sunny in the west, otherwise mostly cloudy. In the afternoon there will be showers. At midday the zero degree level will be approximately 2500 m. The danger of dry avalanches will decrease. As the day progresses, the danger of wet snow avalanches will increase, in particular in the west.
