13 cm of new snow Wednesday and Thursday and cooler temperatures make travel conditions more appealing for the weekend. For this early in the season we have surprisingly good conditions.

Summary

Problems

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
13cm snow mid week has been redistributed by moderate to strong westerly winds in alpine and tree line areas and it would be possible for a skier to trigger a slab avalanche in cross loaded or lee terrain in alpine and tree line areas.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Possible - Likely

Expected Size

1 - 2

Deep Persistent Slabs

Evidence of this weak layer was observed Friday on a south aspect at 2250 meters, though the 60 cm strong mid pack in deep snow areas will likely bridge it well. Avoid shallower snowpack areas where it still could be possible to trigger.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood

Expected Size

2 - 3
