Regions: Kananaskis.

Slight increase in the wind speed today triggered some small sluffs and is developing new surface wind slabs. Though not yet a major concern, keep an eye on localized conditions.

Weather Forecast

Monday will be a mix of sun and cloud with possible light flurries developing in the afternoon. Temperatures will start out near -20 with a high near -14. Winds will be light from the NW.

Avalanche Summary

Very isolated loose dry avalanches up to size 1.0 were observed in steep non-skiable terrain today. While not much of a concern to skiers and snowshoers, these could be of consequence to climbers.

Snowpack Summary

Light north and west winds have created some light wind effect in the Alpine from about 2600m and higher. Buried wind slabs persist in lee and cross-loaded terrain in the Alpine and open areas at Treeline. At lower elevations the snowpack is mainly not supportive to skier traffic (weak facets). Poor coverage means there are lots of buried, or almost buried, hazards such as rocks and trees.
