watch for blowing snow. Light snow and moderate to strong winds will likely form new wind slabs in exposed terrain.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches were reported on Sunday.

On Friday ski cutting produced wind slab avalanches up to size 1.5. Several wet loose avalanches to size 1.5 were also observed, these avalanches were on steep low elevation features.

Snowpack Summary

New wind slabs will likely form in exposed terrain . Moist snow could be observed at lower elevations.

A couple of sun crusts exist in the upper snowpack but none have been identified as layers of particular concern. The lower snowpack is thought to be well settled.

Terrain and Travel

  • Be careful with wind slabs, especially in steep, unsupported and/or convex terrain features.
  • Watch for newly formed and reactive wind slabs as you transition into wind affected terrain.
  • Minimize your exposure time below cornices.

Problems

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs

Wind slabs could be found on north and east aspects in exposed treeline and alpine terrain. Strong winds mean that wind slabs could form further down slope than expected.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, North West.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Likely

Expected Size

1 - 1.5

Cornices

An icon showing Cornices

Cornices have grown large recently. Give them a wide berth when travelling on or below ridges. The likelihood of cornice falls can increase with solar input.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, North West.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood

Possible

Expected Size

1 - 2
