Snowpack
The new fallen snow from Tuesday and Wednesday will be transported by westerly and northerly winds, which will be strong at times. Widespread wind slabs will form, including some large ones in western regions that have seen heavy snowfall. Particularly on north-facing slopes, these lie on a loosely structured surface and are prone to triggering.
In southern Valais, Ticino and Grisons, the snowpack is weak with many soft layers of faceted crystals. The snowpack structure is most unfavourable in the Engadine and the neighbouring southern valleys of Grisons.
The sliding snow activity will decrease further with the consequence of falling temperatures.
Weather forecast to Wednesday
It will be very cloudy with precipitation. The snowfall level will drop from 1400 m to around 800 m. As the day progresses, there will be brighter spells in Valais and Ticino.

From Tuesday to Wednesday noon the following amounts will fall above 1400 m:

Weather review for Tuesday
It was very cloudy. Precipitation fell intermittently from the early morning, falling as snow above 1500 m. It was mostly dry in Grisons.

From Tuesday morning to Tuesday afternoon, the following amounts of snow fell above 1800 m:

At midday at 2000 m, between -1 °C in the west and south and + 1 °C in the east.

It will be cloudy in the north and another 5 to 10 cm of snow will fall on the northern flank of the Alps above approximately 800 m. There will be sunny intervals in the inneralpine regions, and the south will be sunny. In the north, there will be mostly moderate westerly winds, in the south light to moderate westerly to northerly winds.
The danger of dry avalanches will decrease slightly.
Friday
Conditions will be mostly sunny in the mountains. The temperature at 2000 m will be -4 °C in the west and south and -8 °C in the east. There will be a light to moderate westerly to northerly wind.
The danger of dry avalanches will continue to decrease.
