Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche where you find wind-drifted snow in steep terrain. You are most likely to find these drifts at higher elevations close to ridgelines and along gully walls. Look for and avoid smooth pillows of firm snow that may crack as you approach them. You can find safer travel on soft unconsolidated snow.
