After many days and nights of warm weather, water has drained deeply into the snowpack. At lower elevations, you are likely to punch into wet snow all the way to the ground. Dangerous areas are where you find a firm, moist, supportive slab with large-grained facets below. Start and end your day early. Step out of your travel mode to see if you punch into wet snow and call it a day if you are.
