You can trigger an avalanche where new snow and strong winds built fresh slabs resting on old, weak snow. If you notice signs of instability like shooting cracks in the new snow or audible collapses, consider moving to slopes less than about 30 degrees or slopes with softer snow that was not affected by recent winds.
