Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger an avalanche anywhere you find more than about 8 inches of fresh snow. The avalanche you trigger could be large and may step down if there is a deeper slab present or may gouge into deeper weak snow. Avalanches can be triggered from a distance and from below. You can find safer travel on slopes less than about 30 degrees that are not connected to steeper terrain.
