Newberry

Large avalanches are unlikely on Sunday. Use caution on steep, firm, icy slopes. There is limited terrain with enough snow to ride.

The steep north facing slopes are still holding snow while most other aspects are melted out or very patchy. Overall, there is very little snow for riding, except for some northerly facing slopes. While traveling, I only found a few chutes that have continuous snow. The main non-avalanche hazard is the potential for a long fall on firm surfaces with many obstacles (rocks and trees). At 7,700ft I found the height of snow to be around 130cm on a north aspect. It did not warm up enough for wet snow avalanches. Some easterly slopes did soften up slightly which made riding a little more enjoyable.

On Saturday, I traveled via bike from 10-mile sno-park past Paulina Lodge. After this, I hiked on patches of snow and mostly bare ground until about 6,700ft where the snow became more consistent. From here I traveled up one of the north facing gulleys.
