The wind slabs of last week represent the main danger.
Over a wide area easily released wind slabs formed. The wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on wind-loaded slopes of all aspects above approximately 1900 m and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.
The new snow of last week is lying on surface hoar above the tree line. Weak layers deep in the old snowpack are difficult to recognise. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers also.
