Vicentine Prealps

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind, wind slabs will form especially adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The new snow and wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases above approximately 1900 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially in steep terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Avalanches can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies in particular in case of a large load.

Over a wide area less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In very isolated cases weak layers exist in the snowpack on shady slopes. Some snow has fallen since Saturday in the northeast and in the east. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Fresh wind slabs are lying on soft layers on near-ridge shady slopes in high Alpine regions. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be quite good. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day.
