Wind slab
- Above 2,400 m
Fresh wind slabs at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.
Fresh wind slabs at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.
Some fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, in particular on north, northeast and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls. Some snow will fall in particular on the southern flank of the Alps. The avalanche prone locations are sometimes covered with new snow and are difficult to recognise.
In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Some snow fell yesterday in some localities, this also applies below approximately 1500 m.
