Excellent early season ski conditions continue, with another 15-20 cm last night. Avalanche danger was LOW in the Lake Louise backcountry on Tuesday, but as soon as the wind blows the danger will rise. There is a lot of soft snow to blow into slabs.
Weather Forecast
Isolated flurries expected for Wednesday and Thursday this week, then clearing. Expect a warming trend with valley bottom high temperatures possibly reaching 8-10 degrees by Friday.
Snowpack Summary
Still very limited observations, but generally the snowpack is strong for this early season time. The snowpack about 2000m is 50-70 cm deep and quite strong near the base. Skis travel surprisingly well, even in shallow areas. There are crusts in the snowpack on south and west aspects, but on north aspects the deep snowpack is relatively strong.
Avalanche Summary
Sluffing in steep terrain has been noted out of alpine gully features, but otherwise no avalanches observed in the backcountry.
