New snow and wind slabs require caution.

The new snow and wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. The avalanches can in isolated cases reach medium size. The wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Careful route selection and spacing between individuals are recommended.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack on shady slopes.
