Highlights

Where wind slabs have formed over the past few days, it may still be easy to trigger small to medium-sized avalanches. This problem is most pronounced at higher elevations, where colder temperatures slow down the stabilization process. A little new snow today may also make it harder to see where these wind slabs are located. In general, east-facing leeward slopes have accumulated the most wind-transported snow, but local variations occur.

If the sun breaks through between snow showers, it may weaken the fresh snow and lead to naturally released wet avalanches. This is particularly relevant in steep, sun-exposed terrain.

Snowpack Structure

Snøbygene siden lørdag har gitt et lag med nysnø i fjellet, samtidig som kraftig vind fra vest har omfordelt den. Denne fokksnøen har lagt seg oppå et eldre snødekke som er preget av mye mildvær og regn høyt til fjells. Før det siste snøfall var snøgrensen cirka 400 moh. de fleste steder.

Tendency

Locally unstable conditions. The avalanche danger is primarily linked to high-elevation areas where the precipitation falls as snow and strong winds form wind slabs in leeward terrain. Dry slab avalanches may be possible to trigger while the weather event is ongoing, but the wind slabs are expected to stabilise quickly in the mild temperatures.

If the sun breaks through during the day, it may weaken the fresh snow and lead to a few small, naturally released wet avalanches in steep terrain.

Der det har lagt seg fokksnøflak de siste dagene, kan det være mulig å løse ut små til middels store skred. Dette skredproblemet er mest fremtredende høyt til fjells, der kaldere temperaturer gjør at stabiliseringen tar lengre tid.
