Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will be re-distributed and add to existing deposits, which will be deep in many places, on mainly North through East to South-East aspects above 800m. Wind sheltered locations such as corrie rims, gully tops, steep scarp slopes and crag aprons will be most affected. Here avalanches are likely. Fragile cornices will also build on these aspects. Moderately bonded windslab will be present below 800m in steep places. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Moderate strength Westerly winds overnight and through the morning will back to South -Westerly during the afternoon. Snow showers will die out this evening and it will then remain largely dry during the day. Freezing level will remain around 500m. Observed Weather Influences: Persistent snowfall throughout the day. The winds were moderate to strong East, backing North-East then North with occasional stronger gusts. The freezing level remained around 500m through the period. ObservedSnowStability: Above 800m, soft unstable windslab is present on all aspects. Greatest deposits are present on mainly North-East to South-East aspects. However, isolated, poorly bonded deposits of windslab are also present on South through West to North aspects. Below 800m snow cover is widespread but mainly shallow and generally stable The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
