Highlights

A change in wind direction means that avalanches may release in SW–NE facing slopes that previously were not particularly exposed. The avalanche danger is greatest in areas where faceted crystals exist beneath wind-drifted snow, and in these areas the slab will be easier to trigger. Since the faceted crystals beneath the crust are not highly developed and lie high in the snowpack, the extent of the avalanche problem is limited.

Cornices are well-developed and may trigger avalanches if they break.

In steep, sun-exposed slopes, small wet avalanches may occur.

Avalanche Activity

A change in wind direction means that avalanches may release in SW–NE facing slopes that previously were not particularly exposed. The avalanche danger is greatest in areas where faceted crystals exist beneath wind-drifted snow, and in these areas the slab will be easier to trigger. Since the faceted crystals beneath the crust are not highly developed and lie high in the snowpack, the extent of the avalanche problem is limited. Cornices are well-developed and may trigger avalanches if they break. In steep, sun-exposed slopes, small wet avalanches may occur.

Tendency

Some new snow has arrived but the snowpack is still thin in the region. The avalanche danger is highest in areas where faceted crystals exist beneath wind-drifted snow, and in these areas the slab will be easier to trigger. Since the faceted crystals beneath the crust are not well developed and are located high in the snowpack, the extent of the avalanche problem is limited.

Cornices are well developed and may trigger avalanches if they break.

In steep, sun-exposed slopes, small wet avalanches may occur.
