Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will be present mainly on North-East through East to South aspects above 900 metres. Greatest accumulations will be in steep wind sheltered locations around gully tops and corrie rims. Other sheltered aspects will also be affected due to cross loading. Fragile cornices will be present on these aspects. Slopes exposed to the wind will remain frozen and firm. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Cold overnight with snow showers clearing to leave a dry and cloudy day. Moderate Westerly winds will ease during the day becoming variable later. The freezing level will rise to around 1000 metres by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers throughout the day on moderate North-Westerly winds. The freezing level was around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Accumulations of moderately bonded windslab are present on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Areas most affected are on steep and convex terrain. Sheltered locations on other aspects are also affected due to cross loading, mainly North-East and West aspects. Wind exposed slopes are scoured and firm. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
