Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will develop rapidly during the period on North-East through East to South aspects above 800m where avalanches are likely. Steep wind sheltered locations will be most affected, such as corrie rims, gully tops and crag aprons. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. On North aspects above 800m terrain features may be affected by cross loading. Other aspects will be well bonded and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Forecast Weather Influences: Very strong Westerly winds overnight will veer during the morning to become North-Westerly and slowly decrease to moderate through the day. Frequent heavy snow showers throughout the night. Initially snow will fall to low levels, then as the freezing level rises, it will be snow above 700m. These showers will fade during the morning with just an occasional shower during the day. The freezing level will rise from 500m to 800m through the night and remain there during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Frequent showers and strong Westerly winds through the day. The freezing level dropped below the summits by mid morning and precipitation turned to snow down to around 800 metres by mid afternoon.

ObservedSnowStability: Although the existing snowpack has generally thawed and consolidated, some wet snow instabilities are present on steep North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Small amounts of new windslab are developing on these same aspects above 800 metres. Elsewhere the snow is well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
