Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack, which will mainly exist in the higher North and East facing corries, will remain firm and icy at all altitudes and aspects. Variable winds and light falls of new snow will form isolated areas of unstable windslab in wind sheltered locations such as gullies and around corrie headwalls. These accumulations are not expected to be deep or extensive but bonding will be poor where they form on re-frozen old snow. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A trace of new snow falling on North-Easterly winds will affect the area on Thursday evening. Overnight will be dry and cold. Light snow showers through Friday on fresh Westerly, veering North-Westerly winds. New snow amounts are not expected to be significant. The freezing level will rise to 600 metres during the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A cold, mainly dry North-Easterly airflow (arctic maritime) continues to affect the area. Freezing occurred at most levels overnight. The freezing level today has risen to around 600 metres. There has been a trace of new snow on the highest slopes. ObservedSnowStability: Greatest accumulations of snow exist in the higher North and East facing corries and gullies. Elsewhere cover is very limited and patchy. Overnight very cold conditions re-froze the snowpack at all levels. The surface of the snowpack today remains firm, icy and unforgiving even in areas affected by solar radiation. With only trace amounts of new snow, stability is good. The avalanche hazard is Low.
