Regions: Kananaskis.

We are still finding drummy buried wind slabs and thin wind slabs in open terrain at ridgelines that could be triggered by a skier. with popular areas seeing more traffic, people are pushing into bigger terrain. Dont expose yoruself to too much risk from some fresh turns.

Weather Forecast

Clear and cold overnight as the high pressure still dominates the region. Winds are forecast to remain calm and overnight lows in the -20's warming up to the -8C range. Being in the sun makes for a better day!

Avalanche Summary

A few loose dry slides on N aspects up to sz 1.5 from steep alpine terrain. No new slab activity.

Snowpack Summary

The cold temps are beginning to facet out the upper snowpack. The main concern is for thin windslabs along ridge lines from recent winds and then the the buried wind slabs down 30-40cm. We have been seeing a few "Drummy" or hollow areas in our travels of late and we have backed off some features. The basal October and November crusts are closer to ground but we haven't seen any avalanche activity on this layer just yet. Â
