Snowpack Summary
In general, the snowpack remains very thin. The summits are scoured down to rock or crust. At treeline and below, the height of snow ranges from 55 cm to 80cm. 10 to 25 cm of snow cover the November 28 crust, present in all aspects and altitudes. Greater amounts of snow could be found in areas of maximum loading, depressions and concavities. Make sure to assess these line before committing to it.
Keep in mind that early in the season, isolated pockets of unstable snow could surprise you, and the consequences will be accentuated by terrain traps, such as concavities and gullies.
Weather Summary
Synopsis: The Chic-Chocs will be under the effect of small lows that could leave a few centimetres in the next couple of days.
Sunday evening and night: Clear skies. No precipitation. Westerly winds from 5 to 10 km/h. Min -12C. Freezing level at valley bottom.
Monday: Increasing clouds. Trace of snow. Northerly winds increasing to 20 km/h in pm. Max -13C. Freezing level at valley bottom.
Tuesday: Cloudy. 1 to 3 cm of snow. Winds from the north from 35 to 45 km/h. Max - 15.
Wednesday: Cloudy. 1 to 2 cm of snow. Northerly winds from 45 to 50 km/h. Max -10C.
Terrain and Travel Advice
- Expect shallow snow cover that barely covers ground roughness.
- Winter conditions may exist in gullies, alpine bowls, and around ridgelines.
- Avalanche danger is often elevated in alpine gullies where snow has accumulated.
