Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche on most slopes if you find thick slabs sitting over weak snow buried near the ground. Winds throughout the winter have drifted snow and formed those slabs. The deepest snowpack is near treeline, so if you trigger an avalanche there it can quickly grow large and destructive. You can find safer travel options on wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations, and by avoiding travel on or underneath slopes steeper than about 30 degrees.
