Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous slopes, where you can trigger an avalanche that might grow large enough to bury you, are where you find wind-drifted snow above treeline. You are most likely to encounter these hard, hollow, wind-drifted slopes just below ridgelines and in gullies or couloirs. Safer travel options exist on wind-sheltered terrain at lower elevations where you find softer snow.
