A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the Front Range Mountains, Pikes Peak, and the Sangre de Cristo Range. A strong storm will create dangerous conditions on Wednesday and Thursday as the first sun on the new snow quickly shifts the concern from dry to wet avalanches.
Avoid steep slopes in terrain where more than around 12 inches of new snow accumulates. Expect fast changes in avalanche conditions as the day warms. Early in the day, you can trigger dry slab avalanches, most likely in wind-drifted spots. As new snow warms by midday, wet avalanche concerns grow on most sun-exposed slopes.
