Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above approximately 2200 m.

As a consequence of a strong wind from westerly directions, mostly small wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as at elevated altitudes. Avalanches can be released in the old snowpack. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines above the tree line, as well as at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. As a consequence of warming wet and gliding avalanches are possible from the early morning, in particular medium-sized ones. Caution and restraint are advisable.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of rising temperatures and partly cloudy skies a crust formed on the surface during the last few days. This applies in particular below approximately 2300 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack.
