Wind slabs and wet snow represent the main danger.
Wind slabs and wet snow represent the main danger.
Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist and wet avalanches are possible above approximately 2500 m, in the event of solar radiation especially on rocky sunny slopes. The more recent wind slabs are easy to recognise but to be assessed with care and prudence. Single backcountry tourers can release avalanches in some places, including medium-sized ones.
In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes.
