CM 11/03 Windslab and cold weather induced instabilities on all aspects above 900m. Avalanche Hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight localised areas of unstable windslab will develop mainly on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 meters. During the day, windslab will form on West to North aspects above 900 meters. North-East aspects will also be affected. This will mainly affect areas such as steep corrie headwalls and gully tops. In addition, continued cold temperatures will further develop weaknesses within the snowpack on all aspects above 900m. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight moderate Northerly winds will veer through East and increase to strong South-Easterlies by morning. A predominately dry day is expected, with the freezing level at 200 meters or less. Observed Weather Influences: Moderate North-Westerly winds. A dry and sunny morning, clouding over in the afternoon. The freezing level rose to around 300 meters. ObservedSnowStability: Localised areas of unstable windslab are present on all aspects above 900 meters. Areas most affected are steep corrie headwalls, gully tops and the leeward side of ridge crests. In addition, cold induced weaknesses are present on all aspects above 900 meters. Below 900 meters, dry unconsolidated snow remains on shady aspects, this snow overlays bare ground and stability here is good. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
