The avalanche danger is Low today. The exception to this will be in very steep terrain at the mid and upper elevations where isolated pockets of shallow wind slab can be human triggered. These pockets will be low in volume and of greater concern when traveling above terrain traps such as cliffs, steep gullies and trees. Triggering these small slabs has the potential to knock you off your feet. Pay attention to signs of recent wind loading and only expose one person at a time. In all other terrain avalanches are unlikely today.

An arctic air mass will continue to push through the area tomorrow with snow showers continuing in the mountains. We could pick up another one to three inches overnight in the mountains with a dusting possible in the valleys. Temperatures will grow colder overnight with lows around ten below zero and not rebounding much tomorrow at all. Light to moderate wind will shift west overnight and shift further to the northwest tomorrow. Be prepared to find some wind slabs above 8500’ tomorrow, particularly if higher snowfall totals materialize. Wind slabs will most likely be small and isolated enough (less than a foot thick) to continue to warrant a low danger rating tomorrow but they could still be enough to sweep you off your feet in steep and exposed terrain.
