Snowpack
The wind slabs from Tuesday are lying on shady slopes in particular, protected from the wind on a loose, partially transformed surface of the snowpack. Apart from that, the snowpack, which is still thin in many places, is mostly favourable with only isolated weak layers, mostly in the area of thin melt-freeze crusts.
Above 2800 m, where there was already a cohesive old snowpack before the precipitation in the second half of November, there are some weak layers of faceted crystals on northern slopes. Here, avalanches are possible in very isolated cases, including in old snowpack close to the ground.

It was mostly sunny in Valais and the south. Otherwise, it was cloudy at first and a little snow fell down to low altitudes in the northeast. During the course of the day, it became increasingly sunny in the west and generally in the high Alpine regions.

A few centimetres of new snow will fall in the northeast.

Weak, with a partly moderate northerly wind in the high Alpine regions and in the south.
Outlook until Saturday, 07.12.2024
It will be very cloudy with precipitation. During Thursday night, the snowfall level will temporarily increase to 2000 metres. By Friday afternoon, 30 to 60 cm of new snow is expected on the northern flank of the Alps, in Valais and in northern Grisons above 2200 metres. There will be a strong to stormy westerly wind. In the far south, it will be partly sunny on Friday with northwesterly winds.
With the exception of the very south, the avalanche danger will increase everywhere, to considerable (Level 3) in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Depending on the amount of precipitation, naturally triggered avalanches are expected to increase on Saturday.
