The general avalanche hazard is LOW at all elevations this morning and may increase to MODERATE at upper elevations in the afternoon if heavier forecasted snow amounts occurr. Recent light density snow has developed isolated pockets to ten inches in depth in steep, lee starting zones. The danger from triggering a slide in these pockets is low unless the person is in a precarious position above a cliff or terrain trap where sloughing snow can pile up enough to bury them.

The second half of the storm to the east and south will continue to impact the Salt River, Wyoming and Gros Ventre Ranges. The heaviest snow will likely be over the Wyoming Range and Upper Green River Basin. The remaining areas are expected to be mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow. Mountain temperatures will remain in the single digits. Strong east winds should end and be replaced by a west to southwest flow. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON AREA:The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain LOW. North to northeast winds have formed isolated pockets of soft slab up to one foot in depth that are likely to be easily triggered by skiers. FOR THE TOGWOTEE PASS / CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the western and northern portions of these areas. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE in the eastern and southern portions of these areas where new snow and strong east winds are forming new soft surface slabs on slick old snow surfaces. Caution is advised on and beneath steep slopes with deep accumulations of new snow. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
