These dangerous slabs are most likely to be triggered by snowmobiles on steep slopes underlain by weak surgary (faceted) snow.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Mostly sunny skies above areas of dense morning valley fog and cold temperatures are expected. Daytime highs will rise to near 10 degrees from overnight lows near 5 to 10 degrees below zero. Winds will be westerly at 5 to 15 miles per hour. Above 7,500 feet the general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. Surface slabs 1 to 3 feet in depth and older hard slabs up to 5 feet in depth could be triggered by backcountry users especially on very steep northerly and easterly aspects. Below 7,500 feet the general avalanche hazard is expected to be low and avalanches are unlikely.
