Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on most slopes near and above treeline. The most dangerous slopes are the lee sides of ridgelines on easterly slopes where recent wind transported additional snow to create thicker more cohesive slabs on top of multiple weak layers. Safer travel options exist by sticking to low-elevation terrain below treeline. If you are traveling near and above the treeline you can reduce your chances of being injured or worse in an avalanche by avoiding uneven rocky slopes, steep slopes with terrain traps such as a cliff below you, or simply staying on low-angle slopes without steep slopes above you.
