Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche large enough to bury you. Near and above tree line slopes facing north, northeast, and east are most dangerous since they will receive the most wind-drifted snow. Expect avalanches to be easier to trigger as the day progresses with continued snow and wind.

Shooting cracks and audible “whumps” means unstable snow. Move to lower-angle or more wind-sheltered slopes if you experience these clues.
