Avalanche Summary

You could trigger an avalanche where strong winds have formed stiff drifts of snow over old snow surfaces. Look for cracking in drifted snow as a sign of instability. If you observe this, avoid steep slopes with pillowy-looking drifts or recent snow that feels stiff underfoot.

Safer travel can be found on slopes less than about 35 degrees steep and in wind-sheltered terrain.
