Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on any wind-drifted slope. Although north through east-facing slopes near ridgetop have the thickest slabs over weak, collapsible layers, don't let your guard down on steep, wind-loaded south-facing slopes. An avalanche was triggered on a south-facing slope on Wednesday in the Gore Range. Sheltered slopes without cohesive slabs are safer for travel.
