Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above the tree line.

The wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads,. They must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above the tree line. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Small to medium-sized avalanches are possible. Additionally in some places avalanches can also penetrate down to the ground. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase in particular on steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with each other and the old snowpack. Places where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable.

Tendency

The northwesterly wind will transport the loosely bonded old snow. As a consequence of wind, further wind slabs will form in some regions. Increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.
