The large amounts of rain received on Thursday (30-45 mm) have melted the snowpack in the Chic-Chocs. The snowpack at all elevations is very thin. The cold temperatures expected on Friday will form a new surface crust. The cold and dry temperatures expected this weekend will maintain perilous travelling conditions in the mountains.
Forecast for the Chic-Chocs ridges and summits.
Thursday night: Mainly cloudy. No precipitation. Light winds northwest, gusting 40 km/h. Low of -7 C. Freezing level down to valley bottom.
Friday: Mix of sun and cloud. No precipitation. North winds up to 30-40 km/h, High of -7 C.
Saturday: Mix of sun and cloud. No precipitation. North winds up to 30-50 km/h, High of -14 C.
