Snake River Range

The snowpack is generally stable. In very steep terrain near rocks and cliff areas, small isolated pockets of slab could still be triggered.  Use caution in no fall zones and in any high consequence terrain where small amounts of snow could knock you off of your feet, particularly this afternoon if additional light snowfall occurs.

Cold air with a limited amount of moisture has arrived and brought a trace to an inch of snow to favored areas of the Snake River Range. It has been over 2 weeks since any snowfall and the last avalanche activity in the Snakes, Salts, or Wyoming ranges occurred on January 11th when a fatality occurred in a relatively small slide near LaBarge creek. Additional accumulation of up to an inch or two  is possible in isolated locations later today into Sunday morning. This is not enough to increase the danger ratings but enthusiasts should be wary in very steep terrain near cliff edges or in couloirs where new snow could easily slide on the slick crusts and/or faceted snow, including surface hoar, that lie throughout the backcountry.
