Blues
Avalanche danger
Highlights
Generally stable snow conditions exist throughout the Elkhorns and Blues for today. Your greatest concern will be losing an edge, whether that's on your skis, snowboard or snowmobile on a firm steep slope, and losing control. Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend, and although avalanche danger is low, there are still ways to hurt yourself out there.
Avalanche Discussion
The Blues and Elkhorns have now seen two nights with a solid overnight freeze. Our snowpack is now locked up, and our Wet avalanche problems from earlier this week are in the rearview mirror. A light dusting of snow has helped improve the surface appearance in some areas, but the firm rain crust is a reminder of the high snow levels we had earlier this week. Low danger doesn't mean no danger. With cold temperatures overnight and a lack of much warming today, coupled with freezing levels below 3,000' today, the surface snow won't soften much. Enjoy the nice views and cooler temperatures, but remind yourself that losing control on a firm slope with consequences below could yield negative results.
