East Slopes South

You may still encounter isolated areas of unstable snow high in the alpine. Continue to look for evidence of wind drifted snow before committing to steeper terrain. Watch for small loose snow avalanche activity on steep sun-exposed slopes, especially during the first half of the day when the solar radiation will be strongest.  

Most areas in the west north zone picked up several inches of snow or less with the system arriving Thursday night through Friday evening. This snow sits on top of a firm rain crust, limiting avalanche concern at lower elevations. Follow the bottom line travel advise and monitor the new snow above the crust for signs of cracking, warming (wet or slushy snow), or a tendency for the surface snow to move down the slope. If you find isolated areas with enough snow to create a concern (6" or more of snow above the crust), choose slopes less than 35 degrees to limit your danger.

The most eastern slopes and lower elevation slopes still lack significant snow cover and early season travel conditions are still the biggest hazard in many areas.
