Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger.

Some snow has fallen over a wide area. In some localities 5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. As a consequence of a strengthening wind, mostly small wind slabs will form since Sunday in particular adjacent to ridgelines. Wind slabs are mostly rather small but can in some cases be released easily especially at their margins. Very isolated avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain above approximately 2200 m. The wind slabs are to be avoided whenever possible.

Snowpack Structure

In all altitude zones only a little snow is lying. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The snowpack is largely stable and has a loosely bonded surface.
