Avalanche danger levels in the Gurktal and Seetal Alps, on Stubalpe and on Koralpe will rise from considerable to HIGH during the daytime hours.The critical mass of fresh fallen snow will be exceeded by far. The danger of naturally triggered loose-snow and slab avalanches will increase. In Gurktal and Seetal Alps there is only a small amount of fresh snow anticipated, but the stormy winds will increase the frequency of danger zones nonetheless. Caution: west-facing slopes are wind-loaded due to easterly winds. An atypical situation. In addition, on shady slopes, older, cold snowdrift masses can be triggered by a winter sports enthusiast. Slab avalanches can fracture down to deeply embedded layers. The drifts can be large-sized. Due to weather conditions, assessing avalanche dangers on-site will be quite difficult.

Fresh snow and snowdrifts lie deposited atop an unfavourably layered old snowpack. On north-facing slopes the expansive metamorphosis weakens the snowpack enormously. At intermediate altitudes the snowfall will be moist. The heavy fresh fallen snow has poor bonding to the cold old snowpack surface.

At the edge of a low over Italy, the front has the southeastern regions in its grip. Weather conditions are highly inhospitable: heavy clouds, peaks wreathed in fog, snowfall in the western regions of Styria: intensive and persistent, focal point in the Gaaler and southern Wölzer Tauern. Between Monday midday and Tuesday midday, more than 50 cm of fresh snow is anticipated, plus stormy E/NE winds (up to 80 km/hr). In Schladminger Tauern, much less snowfall. At 2000 m: -4 degrees. Snowfall level at about 800 m.

On Tuesday, widespread snowfall to start with, intensive in the Koralm region. During the day the snowfall will ease. In northern regions it will soon terminate, the clouds slowly disperse. Moderate to brisk NE winds (30-50 km/hr). At 2000 m: -3 degrees. Considerable avalanche danger will persist on Tuesday.
